Saints Overtake Nighthawks in Men's Soccer Season Opener

The Nighthawks of Newbury College fell to the Saints of Emmanuel College today by a score of 3-1.  The game proved to be a hard-fought battle with defense dominating the first half.  The second half brought more of an offensive spark, but the Nighthawks were not able to overtake their opponents.

Emmanuel made the first attack as Ivan Barrera (Millis, MA/Millis) scored 8:02 minutes into the game.  It took until 57:18 for the next tally, when Gavin Molta (Southwick, MA/Southwick-Tolland Regional) found the back of the net off an assist by Dan D'Amato (Huntington, MA/Gateway Regional).  Newbury's hard work and perseverance paid off at 75:45 on an unassisted goal by John Mawson (Amherst, MA/Amherst) but unfortunately, the Nighthawk effort would fall short as the Saints' Ken Bell (Boston, MA/East Greenwich) capitalized on a corner kick at 85:35 to ice the game for Emmanuel.

The Nighthawks will travel to Nichols College to take on the Bison on Monday September 8, 2008.
