Rosemond, Young Garner All-Conference Honors
Sophomore guard Steve Rosemond (Everett, Mass.) and junior guard Tim Young (Brockton, Mass.) represented the Newbury College men’s basketball team on the All-New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) team, released this afternoon. Rosemond was selected to the All-Conference Second Team while Young garnered All-NECC Honorable Mention honors.

Nighthawks Fall to Hawks in Semifinals, 83-60
The Newbury College men’s basketball team fell to the eventual 2011-2012 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Champion Becker College, 83-60, in the Semifinals Friday evening. Sophomore guard Kwame Thompson (Brockton, Mass.) led three Nighthawks in double figures netting 19 points.

The fifth-seeded Newbury College men's basketball team makes their second appearance in the New England Collegiate Collegiate Conference (NECC) Semifinals. For the second straight season, the Nighthawks will face the conference's regular season champion, Becker College (21-4/16-0 NECC).

Men's Basketball Earns Fifth Seed in Conference Tournament
The Newbury College men’s basketball team earned the fifth seed in the 2011-12 New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) post-season tournament with an 8-8 conference record and 11-14 overall. The Nighthawks will travel to Nashua, N.H. to tip-off against fourth-seeded Daniel Webster College (9-15, 8-8 NECC) on Tuesday February 21st.

The Newbury College men’s basketball team wraps up the regular season with a 67-60 victory over Regis College, Tuesday evening. Coming off a his game-winner against Mitchell over the week, sophomore guard Steve Rosemond (Everett, Mass.) paved the way to victory, leading three Nighthawks in double figures dropping a game-high 20 points.

With the game tied at 6.3 seconds remaining in regulation and the game all square at 81, sophomore guard Steve Rosemond (Everett, Mass.) drained a fade-away jumper at the buzzer to propel the Newbury College men’s basketball team to the 83-81 victory over Mitchell College Saturday afternoon.

Nighthawks Complete Comeback Over Pride
The Newbury College men’s basketball team completed the 53-49 comeback win over Regis College on Senior Night, Thursday evening, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action. Sophomore guard Steve Rosemond (Everett, Mass.) sent seniors Jason Marshall (Fairburn, Ga.) and Matt Tise (Hanover, Mass.), who were playing in their final regular season home game of their careers, out on a high-note, netting a game-high 19 points.

The Newbury College men’s basketball team fell to Wheelock College on the road, 76-56, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Tuesday evening. Sophomore guard Steve Rosemond (Everett, Mass.) was five-for-nine from beyond the arc for a team-high 21 points however they were unable to contain Wildcat senior guard Max Kaim (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) who dropped a game-high 22 points on the Nighthawks.

The Newbury College men’s basketball team completed the come-back, defeating visiting Elms College in overtime, 75-74, Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action. Sophomore guard Eric Watson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) led four in double figures netting a team-high 19 points en route to the Nighthawks first victory in program history over the Blazers.

The Newbury College men’s basketball team stopped a six game skid defeating Mitchell College, 64-58, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Saturday evening. Junior guard Tim Young (Brockton, Mass.) became the fourth player in the history of the men’s basketball program to register 1,000 career points, tallying 10 on the day.

First year center Cameron Owen (Concord, N.H.) registered a career single game-high draining 12 points on the Hawks - all from beyond the arc - and was three boards shy of recording his first collegiate career double-double.

First year center Cameron Owen (Concord, N.H.) drained a pair of treys in the last four minutes of regulation as the Newbury College men’s basketball rattled off 12 unanswered points to tie up the contest at 72 and force overtime. However, the overtime period belonged to the Elms College Blazers, who outscored the Nighthawks 16-11, to claim the, 88-83 victory.

The Newbury College men’s basketball team fell to Wheelock College, 54-52, in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action, Saturday afternoon. Wildcat senior Max Kaim (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) put on an offensive show, setting a new career single-game high, netting 29 points on the Nighthawks en route to the victory. Despite the loss, Newbury senior Jason Marshall played solid registering a season-high 11 points while ripping down nine boards.

The Newbury College men’s and women’s basketball teams opened up New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) action with a historic first. While the men were taming 5’8” Lesley guard John Sanchez in a 67-58 victory at home, their female counterparts were battling the Lynx just up the road, earning their first win in six years over Lesley with a lopsided, 52-26 win. It was the first time in Newbury history both programs defeated rival Lesley University on the same night.

Sophomore guard Eric Watson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) was tabbed the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) Player of the Week after leading the Nighthawks to an 82-78 comeback victory over non-conference Eastern Nazarene. The conference’s leading scorer, with 85 points, Watson notched a double-double tallying 21 points while ripping down 13 boards as Newbury returns to .500 on the season with a 2-2 record.

Down by as much as 16 points with just over five minutes left in the game, the Newbury College men’s basketball answered with a second half comeback to climb back to .500 on the season with the 82-78 victory over Eastern Nazarene College, Tuesday evening. Sophomore guard Eric Watson (New Rochelle, N.Y.) launched a wide open trey from the far side with 18 seconds remaining the contest to claim the victory.

Rosemond Garners First NECC Honors of the Winter
Sophomore guard Steve Rosemond (Everett, Mass.) was the first New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) rookie to earn Rookie of the Week honors for the 2011-12 season. Three games into the season, Rosemond is averaging 18.3 points per game and is tied for second in the conference with 55 points while shooting 41.7% from beyond the arc.

First year Head Coach, Jelani Townsell begins his Nighthawk career at 1-0. Junior guard Tim Young dropped a game-high 25 points on the Rams in the four point victory.

The Newbury College men’s basketball team looks to soar under first year Head Coach Jelani Townsell, who comes to the Newbury after serving as a Graduate Assistant for the 2010-11 NCAA Division I Champion UConn Huskies. With 777 career points, junior guard Tim Young will bring veteran leadership to a young Nighthawk squad.

Quinn Named Head Men's Golf Coach
Garrett Quinn has been named the Head Men's Golf Coach at Newbury College and will stay on board as an assistant men's basketball coach. Last year, Quinn helped guide the Nighthawks men's basketball program to an 8-6 conference record and 11-18 overall.
